Summary
Performs computerized tomographic radiographs according to established practices and procedures, reviews exams for clinical appropriateness, appropriately prioritizes exams, and demonstrates effective communication of critical situations. Supports new employee orientation by properly documenting clinical competence, maintains necessary credentials and timely renewal of required credentials. May also be required to perform general radiology and/or lab testing as required by primary job location.

Responsibilities
- Utilizes clinical reasoning which includes integral grasp of situations, critical thinking, decision making, priority setting, and escalation of concerns following evidence‑based guidelines.
- Works on behalf of patients and significant others, representing their concerns and helping to resolve ethical and clinical issues that impact patient care.
- Uses effective communication to appropriately raise concerns with leadership and attends to patient exam requests.
- Creates a compassionate, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, promoting comfort and preventing unnecessary suffering.
- Educates patients prior to scanning procedures, explaining the procedure and answering questions.
- Involves multidisciplinary team and patients to promote realistic goals and outcomes, coordinating with other departments to streamline exam flow.
- Effectively manages environmental and system resources across the healthcare system and community to meet patient needs and ensure quality care.
- Assesses clinical area for safety issues related to physical space,
expired supplies, and damaged equipment.
- Uses a holistic approach in provision of care, incorporating cultural, spiritual, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic, and age differences.
- Fosters patient learning to promote self‑care and contributes to the orientation and professional growth of colleagues.
- Conducts pre/post‑procedure screening, supports student educational programs, and on‑boarding of new employees.
- Stays current on technology protocols and advances, reviewing protocol manuals and updates.
- Performs necessary clinical and technical safety checks, validates reasons for exam, and ensures right patient/right exam/right order.
- Maintains high standards and evidence‑based practices, applying research and evaluation skills to practice.
- Demonstrates and models CARES behaviors, builds supportive relationships, and communicates any protocol or scheduling variances.
- Supports organizational and departmental business objectives by delivering standardized, evidence‑based care and participating in quality and community initiatives.
- Maintains competency required for X‑ray, lab, EKG and other clinic duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ARRT required. Must hold a NM Computed Tomography License (NMCT) or a NM Computed Tomography Provisional License (NMPCT). Current BLS required.
