What are you working on?
- The name of the project(s): Unannounced rock-horror story-driven PC game
- At what stage of the project(s)? Prototype / vertical slice in active production. We are preparing the Steam page, announcement campaign, press materials, promotional videos... etc.
- Genres: Action, Adventure
- Platforms: PC, Console
We are a small independent game team building an unannounced rock-horror story-driven PC game in Unreal Engine 5.
The project combines narrative horror, cinematic presentation, original music, and rock / metal culture. It is supported by an experienced games and entertainment team.
We are preparing the first public introduction of the project. This includes the Steam page, announcement materials, games-media outreach, interviews, event meetings, and longer-term audience building.
This role has direct influence on how the game is introduced to the public. You will work closely with the project leads, creative lead, writer, production team, artists, and external specialists. The team is small, communication is direct, and good work can have an immediate visible impact.
We are looking for someone who wants real ownership of a campaign, not only a support or contact-list role
Team size and structure?
Small independent team with project leads, creative direction, writer and story support, Unreal dev, art, anim, production, and external specialists.
For which tasks (responsibilities)?
Lead the public introduction and early communications campaign for an unannounced PC game.
Main responsibilities:
- Audit the current positioning, story, assets, audiences, channels, and announcement readiness.
- Build and operate a practical announcement and communications plan.
- Help prepare and launch the Steam page, with clear wishlist goals and tracking.
- Prepare or coordinate the press kit, press release, game description, biographies, screenshots, FAQs, interview materials, and announcement copy.
- Build and maintain qualified games-media and creator pipelines.
- Pitch journalists directly, manage follow-ups, and maintain clear outreach status.
- Arrange interviews, previews, event appointments, and private press or industry demos.
- Support Gamescom, PAX, and other relevant event outreach when timing and materials are ready.
- Work directly with our creative lead on interview angles, talking points, preparation, and approvals.
- Coordinate with the video editor / producer on trailer messaging, target audience, release use, and call to action.
- Coordinate communication across Steam, website / landing page, email, social, press, creators, and community.
- Identify useful publisher, platform, investor, and industry-facing communication opportunities.
- Build a 10–12 week campaign calendar with owners,
deadlines, dependencies, and approval dates.
- Track Steam wishlists, press responses, interviews, event meetings, creator activity, traffic sources, email signups, and community response.
Provide a short weekly report with results, risks, decisions needed, and next actions.
Recommend whether the project is ready to announce, needs different messaging, or should delay a public beat.
Initial engagement:
- Three-month contract.
- Approximately 25–40 hours per week during active preparation.
- Start as soon as practical.
- Possible continuation after the first announcement period.
Kickstarter or other crowdfunding may become a later campaign beat, but this is primarily a games PR, Steam, announcement, and communications role.
What kind of professional are we looking for?
Required:
- Approximately 4–7 years of hands-on games PR or PC-game communications experience.
- Direct ownership of at least one PC / Steam game announcement or pre-launch campaign.
- Current working relationships with games journalists and relevant media.
- Practical knowledge of Steam store-page positioning, wishlists, demos, festivals, and announcement timing.
- Direct experience pitching media and managing professional follow-up.
- Experience arranging interviews, press briefings, previews, event appointments, or private demos.
- Experience preparing press kits, announcements, game descriptions, FAQs, interview materials, and campaign copy.
- Ability to build and manage campaign calendars, outreach trackers, KPIs, and weekly priorities independently.
- Ability to coordinate developers, artists, video editors, writers, musicians, executives, and external agencies.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Evidence of completed campaigns and clear explanation of personal ownership and results.
Strong plus:
- Active European games-media relationships, especially relevant to Gamescom.
- North American games-media relationships and PAX experience.
- Horror, narrative-game, indie-PC, music, rock, or metal experience.
- Experience working with a recognised musician, actor, creator, or public figure.
- Experience with Steam wishlists, email capture, creators, community, and campaign analytics.
- Kickstarter or other crowdfunding experience for a digital game.
- Publisher, platform, investor-event, or industry-presentation experience.
- Experience working with an external PR or marketing agency without duplicating responsibilities.
Please include named examples of games or campaigns you personally supported and explain exactly what you owned.
What is important for us in a person?
- Independent and proactive.
- Strong professional judgment.
- Comfortable challenging unrealistic dates or weak materials.
- Clear, direct, and practical communication.
- Organised with follow-ups, deadlines, and approvals.
- Confident working directly with senior creative and business stakeholders.
- Able to protect message consistency while working with different personalities.
- Honest about what you can own and where another specialist is needed.
- Reliable in a remote distributed team.
- Comfortable working with an evolving game and incomplete materials.
Why do we enjoy working here?
- Lead the first public introduction of a distinctive rock-horror game.
- Work directly with the project’s creative lead and an experienced entertainment team.
- Real ownership of the announcement strategy and communications pipeline.
- Direct influence on Steam positioning, press relationships, interviews, events, and campaign timing.
- Opportunity to build a project from pre-announcement through its first public audience.
- Small team, direct communication, fast feedback, and visible impact.
- Potential to continue into later public campaigns, events, crowdfunding, publisher outreach, and release preparation.
What are the conditions and bonuses?
- Fully remote collaboration.
- Contract / freelance setup.
- Approximately 25–40 hours per week during the initial active period.
- Adaptable working schedule with agreed overlap for team calls.
- Initial three-month engagement with possible continuation.
- Payment in USD.
- Direct access to project leads and creative decision-makers.
- Clear ownership and practical campaign goals.
The selection process
1. Review of CV, named game campaigns, case studies, and relevant working examples.
2. Short introductory call with the project team.
3. Campaign-focused interview with the project and creative leads.
4. Reference check and discussion of availability, weekly hours, rate, and proposed first-month approach.
5. Final contract and scope discussion.
Please be ready to discuss:
- A PC / Steam announcement you personally owned.
- The games journalists or media categories you currently work with.
- Event appointments, previews, interviews, or private demos you personally arranged.
- How you would prepare this project for announcement.
- What you would need from us during the first two weeks.
- Your start date, weekly availability, and hourly or monthly USD rate.
