Assist and contribute to marine research in Tenerife. Location: Tenerife, Spain | Start Date: June/July | Duration: 6 months.

At GVI Tenerife, you’ll be located on a diverse island destination, helping guide research projects and support volunteers.

Why this role matters

As a Field Assistant in Tenerife, you will support the team in the day-to-day running of the programs and assist with managing participants who form part of our groups. The goal is to ensure our groups have a positive and productive experience during their time with GVI.

This role suits someone who thrives in the field, balancing rigorous science, engaging training, and real-life field challenges.

Responsibilities

- Support the running of projects and the daily operations of the GVI base
- Assist with project work including planning sessions
- Manage groups on a day-to-day basis to ensure a positive experience
- Interact with local partners for certain activities
- Deliver presentations and training relevant to project activities
- Act as an enthusiastic role model for participants and provide guidance and mentorship

Qualifications

- Passion for sustainable development and marine conservation
- People-centric mindset; comfortable with being on duty 24/7
- Experience managing and overseeing groups/participants/students (in-country training provided)
- EU passport or valid work permit
- Advantageous: previous GVI experience; understanding of local culture; Emergency First Response certified/trained

Living & Working Conditions

Base is in southern Tenerife, near the coastline. The base offers fieldwork and exploration opportunities with comfortable shared accommodation, facilities, and mountain-and-ocean surroundings. Days can be active and demanding, but the environment is inspiring for work and research.

Base life and facilities include comfortable dorm rooms, shared kitchen and communal spaces, Wi-Fi, and hot showers.

- Backpack and daypack, sturdy hiking boots or walking shoes, sandals, swimwear, outdoor clothing, warm layers, lightweight raincoat, hat and sunglasses, reusable water bottle, laptop/tablet, torch/headlamp, toiletries and medications, insect repellent, sunscreen, and energy for long field days
