Role Description

This contract Mechanical Design Engineer role will be based at ICE-CSIC in UAB Campus, Cerdanyola del Vallès in a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site collaboration with some work-from-home flexibility. The engineer will design and develop a mechanical filter wheel for a multispectral dual camera developed for missions to explore asteroids Moon, and Mars. Daily tasks include creating and updating CAD models and drawings, performing basic mechanical calculations, and preparing documentation for prototypes and experimental equipment. The role involves working closely with researchers and technical staff to understand functional requirements, iterating designs based on test feedback, and ensuring that solutions are safe, reliable, and aligned with MERCAM project goals.

In summary: we are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer (Industrial,Aerospace, or related discipline) to join our team to develop anadvanced opto-mechanical system.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, analyze, validate and integrate a multispectral filter wheel into a camera for future space missions.
- Coordinate with key technical stakeholders (optics, electronics,thermal, systems) to ensure integrated system performance.
- Prepare technical documentation,



test procedures, and verificationreports in line with ESA and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, IndustrialEngineering, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in opto-mechanical design or precision mechanical systems.
- Practical experience in Machine Design and Product Design, including selection of materials, mechanisms, and components for robust and efficient systems.
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering, with the ability to apply engineering principles to research equipment and experimental setups.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical systems; familiarity with laboratory or research environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ESA model philosophy and related development processes.
- Strong knowledge of CAD design tools and engineering analysis methods.
- Experience in tolerance analysis, including stack-up analysis andits impact on performance, manufacturability, and assembly.
- Solid understanding of thermal effects on mechanical design.
- Experience with testing, qualification, and validation of mechanicalassemblies. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, interpret technical requirements from non-engineering stakeholders, and document designs clearly.

Preferred Skills

- Background in space, aerospace, or high-reliability industries.
- Understanding of structural and thermal analysis for precision systems.
- Experience working in regulated or standards-driven environments.
