Resolution of July 22, 2026, of the Aragon Health Research Institute Foundation (IIS Aragon), announcing a Postdoctoral Researcher position for Group B Projects (Ref. RRHH-26/034)
Required requirements:
- Degree in Medicine and Surgery or equivalent.
- Doctoral degree in the area of Biomedical Sciences.
- Twelve months of experience in research with perfusion, preservation or maintenance of ex vivo organs in normothermic perfusion machines.
The main functions to be developed are:
- Collaboration in the cannulation of porcine organs from slaughterhouses, under the supervision of the Project Manager or the Unit Manager.
- Participation in the cannulation and extraction of porcine organs from animal models, following established research protocols.
- Support in training in the extraction and cannulation of porcine kidneys and livers for platform and IISA staff.
- Performing perfusion of isolated organs (liver, kidney) ex vivo in advanced perfusion machines.

a) Training and knowledge relevant to the advertised position (0-20 points)
- Official training and certification for the use of laboratory animals (current functions in accordance with the applicable Royal Decree on animal experimentation) (0-10 points).
- Additional training and specialized courses in perfusion techniques, extracorporeal organ preservation, or experimental surgery (0-10 points).
b) Professional experience: Assesses the extent to which the candidate has developed skills and responsibilities throughout their professional career that are relevant to the advertised position (0-40 points):
- Experience in ex vivo organ perfusion, preservation, or maintenance using tubing, pumps, or normothermic/subnormothermic perfusion systems (0-10 points).
- Experience handling large animal models (porcine or similar), including cannulation techniques, organ procurement, or experimental surgery (0-10 points).
- Experience in the isolation, processing, and culture of primary cell lines (human or animal), as well as the handling of liver or kidney tissue samples (0-10 points).
- Experience with analytical and tissue characterization techniques applied to biomedical research or regenerative medicine projects (including histology, microscopy, biochemistry, or molecular biology) (0-10 points).
c) Competencies and skills for the position (0-25 points):
- Proficiency in computing and bioinformatics tools, including specialized research databases and software (e.g., Ensembl, Fiji, NCBI, KEGG Pathway and Gene Ontology (GO) Analysis, SPSS, etc.) (0-10 points).
- Experience operating bioreactors and tissue/organ perfusion machines (0-5 points).
- English proficiency (reading, speaking, and writing) (0-10 points).
Specific Requirements
Required qualifications:
- Degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.D.) or equivalent.
- Ph.D. in the field of Biomedical Sciences.
- At least 12 months of research experience in the perfusion, preservation, or maintenance of ex vivo organs using normothermic machine perfusion systems.
