Position Title Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) PRN position, Home Health as needed.

Job Summary Works under the direct supervision of occupational therapists to provide physical rehabilitation to injured or diseased patients, administer treatment plans, assist with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability, and help patients reach maximum performance while learning to live within limits of capabilities. Participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities, and engages in CQI activities.

Responsibilities

Provide treatment as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

Observe and evaluate treatment effects, discuss observations with the occupational therapist.

Assess patient pain interfering with optimal function or participation and make appropriate physician contact.

Assist in the formulation of teaching plans based on identified learning needs, assess effectiveness of learning and involve family as appropriate.

Monitor patient activities to ensure they are performed properly and provide encouragement.

Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and spiritual needs.

Maintain patient safety, reduce likelihood of medical/health care errors, and support a culture of safety and quality.

Operate equipment safely and correctly, maintain department cleanliness and safety.

Interact professionally with patient/family, involve them in care planning.

Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians, hospital staff, and department members.

Coordinate and assist in directing patient care to ensure needs are met and hospital policy is followed.

Maintain documentation to meet current standards and policies.

Assist in ordering supplies to maintain adequate inventory.

Participate in infection prevention and control, equipment training, safety and fire safety programs.





Professional Requirements

Adhere to dress code; appearance neat and clean.

Complete annual education requirements.

Maintain regulatory requirements and patient confidentiality.

Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated time.

Wear identification while on duty and use computerized punch time system correctly.

Complete inservices and return reports in a timely fashion.

Attend annual review and department inservices as scheduled.

Attend 12 staff meetings annually or read and return minutes.

Represent the organization positively and professionally.

Participate actively in performance improvement and CQI activities.

Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital and focus statement of the department.

Qualifications

AA degree from a school or college approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Current certification/licensure as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Current BLS certification.

Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Additional languages preferred.

Strong written and verbal skills.

Basic computer knowledge.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift/transfer patients and equipment.

Frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, couching, walking, and standing.

Ability to communicate.
