Job Title: Financial Credit Risk Accountant Department: Operations Division: Administration / Accounting Location: Madrid Type: 8 month Fixed Term Contract Role Overview
Provide support and assist with all aspects of the Financial Accounting, Tax and Treasury functions. Complete a variety of accounting and technical functions pertaining to the company’s coinsurance and reinsurance risks.
Key Responsibilities Ensure statutory and taxation compliance requirements within LSM, LMIE, LSSL Spanish branches are met. Work closely with the Finance Department in the head office to ensure consistency, develop and maintain practices, and drive ongoing improvement of business practices and performance. Collaborate with internal departments, providing excellent service, support and advice where applicable.
Coordinate with external stakeholders such as auditors, brokers, insurance companies, and public administration to provide reporting, documentation, and tax information. Prepare month‑end journals and balance sheet reconciliations for accounts including VAT, Fixed Assets and Intercompany accounts (future role). Handle banking & treasury activities: process treasury related journals at month‑end, reconcile balance sheet accounts, set up standing orders and manual payments, including international payments.
Prepare and file VAT documentation monthly and keep abreast of developments in VAT regulations to ensure compliance.
Submit withholding tax documentation to Rosclar and obtain residence certificates to avoid double taxation for international reinsurance payments. Manage the corporation tax process for the branch and keep abreast of regulatory developments to ensure compliance.
Assist with the submission of annual regulatory obligations and process treaty distribution for translation to Spanish regulators. Act as liaison during the monthly closing process and dialogue with coinsurers, reinsurers, and underwriters to respond to account questions.
Qualifications University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Insurance/Actuarial Science, Engineering, Law, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience in insurance operations or related financial services operations. Direct experience in relevant insurance lines (Casualty, PI, D&O;, FI, property & energy, etc.) and with the local Spanish market preferred.
Experience managing teams and vendor/3rd‑party relationships. Hard Skills / Technical Knowledge Insurance operations: policy administration, claims workflows, underwriting processes, premium collection and commissions.
Experience with GDPR compliance and operational impacts (consent management, DPIAs, breaches). Familiarity with core insurance systems and CRM, billing systems (Power BI, Excel). Fluent in Spanish and English.
