Job Overview Optical Design Engineer – Electro‑Optical Systems, located in Getafe, Spain. Responsible for the optical design of EO/IR systems throughout the development cycle, from requirements analysis to the preparation of deliverables for Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
Responsibilities
Design EO/IR optical systems from requirements analysis to deliverables for PDR and CDR.
Analyze and derive system and optical requirements, ensuring clear interpretation and traceability.
Define optical specifications based on system‑level performance targets.
Develop preliminary and detailed optical designs, evolving concepts into consolidated system architectures.
Conduct optical architecture trade‑off studies to evaluate alternatives and optimise solutions.
Optimize optical system performance using CODE V.
Prepare engineering documentation, including Hardware Design Documents, design justifications, requirements traceability, and a preliminary V&A; approach.
Ensure alignment between requirements, interfaces, tolerances, and verification criteria throughout the design cycle.
Contribute to the technical preparation of PDR and CDR design reviews.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to refine system architectures and support design maturation.
Qualifications
3–5 years of professional experience in optical system design.
Hands‑on experience in PDR and CDR phases of system development.
Background in EO/IR systems or optical/imaging systems.
Degree in Optics, Optometry, Optics/Imaging Technologies, Photonics, Optoelectronics, or Physics with an optics specialization.
Spanish fluency and English proficiency (B2).
Required Skills and Tools
High proficiency in CODE V for optical design and optimisation.
Strong understanding of optical system design, optimisation and architecture trade‑off analysis.
Ability to analyse and derive system and optical requirements and maintain traceability.
Experience preparing engineering documentation for PDR and CDR, including Hardware Design Documents, design justifications and requirement flow‑down.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Desirable Skills
Experience using MATLAB or Python for optical calculations or analysis.
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
