PhD Student Position for the TH BSM Group Opening Date: September 19, 2025 Closing Date: Until Filled Reference: IFAE2025/29_THBSM_SO_PhDStudent About IFAE The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). IFAE conducts research in particle physics, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. It has the status of a University Institute attached to UAB and is part of the UAB campus. IFAE is accredited for the Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence for the period 2025-2029.

Theoretical Physics Group The Theory

Group focuses on Beyond the Standard Model physics and cosmology. Senior members include D. Blas, E. Masso, A Pomarol, O. Pujolas, M. Quiros, F. Rompineve, E. Salvioni, and A. Wulzer. The group collaborates with experimental colleagues on colliders, cosmology, gravitational waves, astroparticles, and quantum technologies.

Required Skills and Evaluation Criteria

Master’s degree in Physics or admission to the Physics PhD program at UAB (expected fall 2026). Proficiency in English. Pro‑active attitude and good communication skills.

Suitability to research activities – 45. Letters of recommendation – 10. Interview – 5. Role The candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research in physics beyond the standard model, formal quantum field theory aspects, gravitation, gravitational waves, quantum sensing, cosmology, and astroparticle physics. The goal is to obtain a PhD within four years. Contract and Benefits

Full‑time contract (40 hours/week). Predoctoral contract for four years. Position classified as Predoctoral Researcher (R1). Salary proportional to experience and qualifications.
