Overview Position: PhD student - algorithms for flow sensitivity analysis using GPU supercomputers (R1)

Context and Mission The quest for carbon-neutral aviation propels us toward uncharted technological frontiers. TRANSDIFFUSE is an ERC Synergy project to develop an AI-driven model called FluidGPT for clean propulsion and advanced flow control. The research blends numerical modelling, high-fidelity CFD, and experimental work across collaborating institutions.
Key Duties
Develop novel algorithms for flow sensitivity using large data sets accelerated by GPUs.
Assess the developed algorithms in TRANSDIFFUSE basic test cases.
Participate in the CFD activities of the LS/CFD team in CASE.
Develop scalable algebraic libraries and frameworks for GPUs.
Requirements Education
MSc in computational fluid dynamics, mathematics or computer science.
Essential Knowledge And Professional Experience
Experience in computational mechanics development (at least 1 year).
Understanding of HPC clusters and experience programming MPI (at least 1 year).
Good programming level (Python, C, Fortran, C++, etc.; at least 1 year).
Additional Knowledge And Professional Experience
Good level in English.
Computational mechanics development knowledge.
Experience in GPU programming (coding, running on HPC systems, etc.).
Experience with National or European projects.
Experience with PETSC or similar libraries.
Competences
Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills in a multicultural, international environment.
Conditions
Location: BSC within the CASE Department.
Full-time contract (35h/week) with a stimulating environment and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Versátil working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, relocation support.
Duration: predoctoral contract.
Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st December per the collective agreement.
Salary: competitive and aligned with qualifications and cost of living in Barcelona.
Starting date: 01/08/2026.
