We are looking for a

Principal Engineer – Architect to serve as the most senior engineering leader within Sklum Digital & AI, owning the end-to-end architecture of our customer-facing platform — shaping how millions of customers discover, explore, and interact with Sklum across web and mobile.

The role spans the full customer-facing stack: the experience layer (React/Next.js and React Native), the integration layer connecting experience to enterprise systems, and the backend services that power it. This is a builder role — equally comfortable setting a multi-year technical vision and jumping into the codebase to prototype, review, or unblock.

What you'll be doing

Own the end-to-end architecture of Sklum's customer-facing platform across web and mobile

Define the target architecture connecting experience, integration, and backend into a coherent, scalable whole

Establish architectural standards and guardrails that let teams move fast without accruing unsustainable debt

Make build-vs-buy decisions and design how external systems are extended to fit Sklum's needs

Hands-On Technical Leadership

Write production code, prototype new capabilities, and contribute to critical paths when required

Drive technical design reviews, code reviews, and architecture decision records (ADRs) across teams

Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and security bottlenecks across the platform

Agentic-Native Ways of Working





Champion and evolve the agentic-native operating model — define the architecture, tooling, and guardrails that allow agentic workflows to safely contribute to design, coding, testing, and operations

Set standards for human-in-the-loop oversight and security when agentic systems produce production artifacts

Continuously identify where agentic workflows can replace or augment traditional engineering tasks

Cross-Functional & Distributed Leadership

Partner with product, design, data, marketing, and operations to align the technical roadmap with business priorities

Translate business goals into technical strategy — and technical trade-offs into clear business language for executive stakeholders

Coach engineers across seniority levels and elevate the technical craft of the organisation

Lead effectively across cultures, locations, and time zones in a distributed, async-first environment

Integration with Operational Systems

Define how the customer-facing platform integrates with Sklum's operational backbone: ERP, CRM, PIM, CMS, and compensation management systems

Ensure data, identity, catalog, pricing, order, and content flows are consistent and observable across the customer journey

What we'd like to see

12+ years of software engineering, with significant time in architect or principal-level roles on customer-facing digital products





Proven track record architecting end-to-end web and mobile experiences, with particular depth in mobile

Deep, hands-on expertise with React, Next.js, and React Native — including performance, rendering strategies, and production-grade patterns

Strong integration architecture background: REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven patterns, API gateways, BFF patterns, and service orchestration

Solid experience designing and operating backend services at scale — data stores, caching, observability

Hands-on experience working agentic-native — using coding agents and autonomous workflows as a core part of how you build software, not as an experiment

Demonstrated leadership across multiple teams, seniority levels, and functions; able to bridge deep technical judgment with business understanding

Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, retail, or consumer-facing digital platforms, ideally at international scale

Working knowledge of operational systems surrounding a customer platform: ERP, CRM, PIM, CMS

Strong written and verbal communication in English; working proficiency in Spanish

Strong plus

exposure to AI/ML-driven customer experiences (personalisation, search, recommendations); cloud-native architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure); track record mentoring senior engineers
