We are a medical nutrition company developing evidence-based products for food allergy, malnutrition and inborn errors of metabolism (IEM). We compete in the same general space as the world's leading nutrition companies — with a commitment to quality and access that, in our view, they have not delivered.

The role

We are building our product portfolio and are looking for someone who can own formulation development end to end: from nutritional and technical concept, through ingredient selection and supplier qualification, to pilot trials and industrial scale-up with our manufacturing partners.

You may come from infant formula or from enteral / clinical nutrition — experience in both is welcome, but not required.

What you will do

- Design and develop formulations from concept to industrial batch: infant formulas (extensively hydrolysed, amino acid–based, IEM-specific) and/or enteral tube feeds, oral nutritional supplements and other Foods for Special Medical Purposes.
- Define nutrient and ingredient specifications — protein systems (whey and casein hydrolysates, free amino acids, CGMP), lipid blends, carbohydrate systems, HMOs, vitamin and mineral premixes, functional and texture ingredients.
- Identify, evaluate and qualify raw material suppliers: technical dossiers, specifications, CoAs, allergen and contaminant profiles, certifications and audit status, sampling and benchmarking.
- Run benchtop and pilot trials; define processing parameters together with contract manufacturers; support scale-up and first industrial production runs.
- Ensure compliance with EU Regulation 609/2013 and Delegated Regulations 2016/127 (infant and follow-on formula) and 2016/128 (FSMP), plus relevant Codex standards. Experience supporting registration dossiers for other markets (LATAM,



Middle East) is a plus.
- Define stability and analytical programmes with external laboratories; interpret results and establish shelf life.
- Work with commercial and supply teams on cost engineering of formulations without compromising nutritional quality.

What we are looking for Essential

- A track record of products you personally formulated that reached the market — we will ask you to walk us through them.
- Degree in Food Science or Technology, Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Biotechnology or a related field.
- 5+ years in product development for infant formula and/or enteral / clinical nutrition, at a manufacturer, CMO or ingredient supplier.
- Practical working knowledge of the EU regulatory framework for infant formula and/or FSMP.
- Hands-on experience with supplier and raw material qualification.

- Based in Europe (EU/EEA/UK), with the right to work as an employee or as an independent contractor.
- Fluent English or Spanish (either is sufficient).
- Comfortable working autonomously and remotely in a small, fast-moving company.

Nice to have

- Experience with IEM products (PKU, MSUD, urea cycle disorders, organic acidaemias).
- Powder processing know-how: dry blending, wet mixing and spray drying, agglomeration, resuspendibility and flow properties.

- Liquid processing: UHT, retort or aseptic filling for ready-to-feed enteral products.
- Palatability and sensory work on amino acid–based products.
- An existing network of European ingredient suppliers and contract manufacturers.

- Portuguese.

Practical details
- Location: fully remote within Europe. Occasional travel to suppliers, laboratories and manufacturing sites.
- Engagement:

full-time, or part-time / fractional (from approximately 2–3 days per week). We are open to an employment or consultancy arrangement, whichever suits the right person.
