Offer Description Description : We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with expertise in

Energy Economics to support the economic dimension of the project. The successful candidate will provide scientific guidance on energy market and economic aspects, contribute to the development of techno-economic models, and supervise the PhD candidate in all research activities related to energy economics.

The researcher will work closely with the principal investigator and the project team, ensuring that the proposed mathematical models adequately capture market mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and economic incentives relevant to Local Energy Communities.

Provide scientific support on the energy economics aspects of the research project.

Supervise and mentor the PhD candidate on research related to energy economics and electricity markets.

Contribute to the integration of market and economic considerations into mathematical optimisation models.

Analyse electricity market structures, pricing mechanisms, flexibility markets, and business models for distributed energy resources.

Assess the economic viability and market performance of different Local Energy Community configurations.

Collaborate in the preparation of scientific publications in high-impact international journals.

Offer of job position

We offer an R1 position for 2 months in the framework of the Industrial PhD programme titled “Local Energy Communities Optimal Management and Integration”.

Salaries will be paid in accordance with IREC’s salary policy, depending on the candidate’s qualification and professional experience.

Requirements Research Field Engineering - Education Level: Bachelor Degree or equivalent

Research Field Mathematics - Education Level: Bachelor Degree or equivalent

Skills/Qualifications

Hold a degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent, with a specialization in energy systems modelling and electricity markets.

Demonstrated research experience in electricity markets, energy economics, renewable energy integration, or distributed energy systems.

Spoken and writing capabilities in Spanish, Catalan, and English.

Preferred

Working knowledge of Python or other similar languages.

Used to write scientific material (papers, conference proceedings, project proposals).

Previous experience participating in similar projects (National or European) related to energy systems modelling.

Familiarity with energy markets and investment schemes.

Personal skills

Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary research environments.

Motivation to contribute to the energy transition through applied research and real‑world impact.
