⚡ Senior Power Electronics Engineer (Control & Hardware) — teknoCEA | Barcelona
Genuine engineering. We're looking for Doers — enthusiasts of power electronics who want to own the technical direction of real converter projects, not just execute someone else's spec.
ABOUT TEKNOCEA
At teknoCEA, we design advanced grid interfaces that combine cutting-edge control, reliable power electronics hardware, and the software layer that makes it all intuitive and operable — so our clients get the maximum economic performance out of their assets.
Our vision goes further: agnostic, adaptable technology that empowers end users to do more with what they have. Our applications don't just electrify assets — they let clients participate, individually or collectively, in the energy transition, aligning economic incentives at the individual level (kWh) with system-level impact (GWh).
You'll be working across our product lines — from Wallare Park, our EV charging platform, to SHP-X, our onboard shore power converter for vessels, to custom R&D; equipment for industrial applications/research centers and SiC-based power components.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Power Electronics Engineer to take technical ownership of our converter projects — both control and hardware — from architecture decisions through to production. In a team our size, this isn't a narrow execution role: you'll be trusted to make the design trade-offs, defend them technically in front of clients and partners, and see a project through from the first Simulink model to a unit deployed in the field.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the technical design of power converter projects end-to-end — set the architecture, make the key control and hardware trade-off decisions, and own the outcome
- Model dynamic systems and design control loops, with stability analysis
- Define converter topologies and modulation strategies, and size converters (thermal behavior, filters, switchgear)
- Design thermal dissipation and electromechanical solutions
- Program and validate real-time control on DSPs (TI,
ST or equivalent), in C/C++
- Run design reviews, make the final call on technical trade-offs, and bring in hardware, software and systems colleagues — and CITCEA-UPC researchers — where their expertise is needed
- Represent the technical side of a project in front of clients and partners when required
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Master's degree in Industrial Engineering (electrical, electronic or automation specialty), or equivalent
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics — control, hardware, or both — with a track record of taking real ownership of a design, not just contributing to one
- Confidence making and defending design decisions with limited supervision
- Working knowledge of Matlab/Simulink (other converter modeling tools are a plus)
- Real-time embedded programming in C/C++
- Familiarity with Altium Designer and/or Solidworks is a strong plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable leading within small, multidisciplinary teams
- Technical English required
LIFE AT TEKNOCEA ? Based in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat — 7 minutes' walk from Barcelona's historic center, well connected by RENFE, FGC and the Barcelona metro
? Office, lab and workshop, all in one — plus direct access to CITCEA-UPC's facilities and researchers, giving us a real edge in staying at the state of the art
? Flexible hours: start between 8:00–9:30, leave between 17:00–18:30. Fridays 8:00–15:00
? 2 days/week remote
? A young, entrepreneurial environment — with internal tech discovery sessions and space to pitch your own ideas and projects
? Continuous learning, and the possibility of pursuing an industrial PhD with us
If you want to own the power electronics that will run tomorrow's grid — make the calls, defend them, and see the project through to a product deployed in the field — we want to hear from you.
