We are supporting an established, high-technology engineering organisation that operates at the intersection of RF, microelectronics, and high-reliability applications. As part of continued growth within their electrical measurements and components laboratory, our client is looking to appoint an RF / Microwave Test Engineer to strengthen their test and characterisation capability.
This is a hands-on, technically deep position, well suited to an RF / Microwave Test Engineer who enjoys working close to hardware, test infrastructure, and real-world RF performance challenges in mission-critical environments.
As an RF / Microwave Test Engineer, you will take ownership of RF and microwave test solutions for advanced electronic components, including MMICs. You will be embedded within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing from early test planning through to final qualification and validation.
The role offers exposure to cutting-edge RF technologies used in high-reliability applications, with close collaboration across electronics, systems, and research teams.
Key responsibilities
- Define, develop, and implement RF and microwave test set-ups for electronic components, including MMICs
- Design and execute RF test plans, including characterisation and validation activities
- Develop supporting software, test boards, and automated test solutions
- Perform final product testing using advanced RF laboratory equipment
- Design and implement new test procedures and methodologies
- Interface with external partners or subcontractors where required
- Operate within structured quality, reliability, and compliance frameworks suitable for high-reliability environments
Technical background
- Proven experience in RF electronic test and characterisation engineering
- Experience in a test engineering or RF measurements role
- Strong hands-on experience with RF lab equipment (VNAs, signal generators, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, thermal test equipment, GPIB, etc.)
- Experience with ATE systems for RF testing
- Exposure to testing components such as MMICs, filters, couplers, oscillators, PLLs, baluns, and related RF devices
- PCB design experience including schematic capture, layout, routing, and assembly (up to ~12 layers)
- Understanding of DFx principles across reliability, testability, cost, and regulatory compliance
- Programming capability in tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, Visual Basic, C/C++, or similar
Qualifications & Soft Skills
- Degree in RF / Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
- A PhD in RF, Microwave, or Electronics would be considered an advantage, but is not essential
- Comfortable producing clear technical documentation
- Fluent English (written and spoken) required; additional languages are a plus
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams
- Able to operate with structure, adaptability, and ownership in technically demanding environments
