Context And Mission

Our group at the Life Sciences Department is developing a research line centred on the functional characterization of sequence variants in proteins. We have developed PMut, a complete framework to test and apply protein-derived features to predicting pathology. In this field, structural and dynamic features of proteins are primarily neglected, mainly due to the difficulties and cost of their obtention. We plan to initiate an ambitious project considering the role of dynamics features in the functional behaviour of protein variants that can be used to improve prediction algorithms.

We seek a young bioinformatician with skills in understanding protein structure and dynamics to generate the core data necessary and develop the required methodology

Key Duties

- Develop and adapt methodologies for conformational analysis both from static structures and from large-scale simulations trajectories

- Develop automated methods for the setup of simulation of protein variants

- Develop analysis tools to derive dynamic features usable in pathology prediction


- Education

- Degree in Biochemistry, biotechnology or equivalent

- Formation in Bioinformatics at a level of Master

- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience

- Experience in the analysis of protein structures, visualization, and simulations software

- Programming skills (scripting)

- Familiar with the use of supercomputing facilities

- Familiar with the use of simulation software

- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience

- Knowledge of advanced statistics and data management

- Competences

- The ability of understanding scientific literature, and software documentation

- Ability to communicate scientific results

- Ability to work independently


- The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department

- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
