About the School - The British School of Barcelona (Castelldefels)

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma,

all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 315 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre-University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of the city of Barcelona itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand-new main campus which opened in September 2023.

The growth of the school has been accompanied by significant investment over recent years, including the building of a state-of–the art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a full-sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEM facilities and the new BSB City campuses.

Barcelona is a wonderful place to live, combining an amazing city with beach and mountains nearby. The quality of life is excellent with a mild climate and year-round sunshine.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Art Secondary Teacher to join our fantastic team.

About the role

We are looking to recruit a temporary, full-time Teacher of Art to cover a staff absence at our Castelldefels campus, starting in early October 2025. The duration of the cover is currently unknown.

Art is a popular and valued subject at BSB and is offered at Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level, and as part of the IB Diploma Programme.

Ideally, candidates will have experience in a similar role, and, particularly, of teaching GCSE, A Level, or IB Art, either in the UK or in international schools. At our school, the language of instruction is English,

so a high level of fluency is essential.

Given the short timeframe before the cover begins, candidates must already have the right to work in Spain.

Join a team of enthusiastic, inspirational professionals who value the rigor of the English curriculum while embracing the freedoms of an international setting to deliver outstanding outcomes for our students.

We offer attractive packages, including competitive salaries, places, and a range of local benefits.

What you will be doing:

- Deliver engaging and challenging lessons to all key stages that link with the real world and which are aligned with department schemes of work.

- Assist in the process of curriculum development and delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality curriculum program at all key stages.

- Use homework and assessments to monitor and track pupil progress. Identify and support underachieving students and challenge the high achievers, implementing intervention as needed.

- Provide feedback and communicate effectively with parents, ensuring that both the student and parents are aware of student strengths and targets, across the year.

- Work collaboratively with the members of the department to ensure this thriving department continues to improve.

- Work with colleagues and members of the SLT to ensure that the school improvement plan priorities are effectively implemented.

BSB Sites

Barcelona is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich cities globally.

BSB City is our newest British international campus for children aged 3-18, located in the heart of Barcelona. It brings our international, future-focused BSB education to students from Early Years to Pre-University.

BSB City comprises two buildings that together cover all educational stages: the Foundation Campus and the Luca Campus.

The Foundation Campus, an inspirational school located in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, is now open for our youngest students. The spectacular BSB City Luca Campus opened in September 2023, extending our provision in Barcelona for students up to Pre-University.

Both BSB Castelldefels (Primary and Secondary) and BSB Sitges (Primary) campuses are minutes away from beautiful beaches and are excellently connected by public transport.

The BSB Castelldefels campus offers purpose-built, modern facilities for students in Early Years, Primary, and Secondary. This optimal setting supports and enhances effective teaching and learning, leading to consistently high standards of achievement.

BSB Nexus is a purpose-built campus for students aged 16 to 18. Located in Castelldefels, close to the BSB Castelldefels campus, it provides a real-world Pre-University experience with distinct study and social spaces that support independent study and encourage the development of 21st-century skills as students prepare for university and their future careers.

BSB Sitges offers a unique learning environment for Early Years (from 2-year-olds) and Primary children. The thoughtfully designed facilities provide quality learning experiences and a safe, supportive school environment where children can thrive.
