**JOB TITLE**
School Counsellor (Cover Maternity Leave)
**JOB PURPOSE**
The School Counsellor provides students with opportunities to form solid foundations for personal, social, and emotional well-being.
**REPORTING TO**
Head of Counselling
**OTHER KEY RELATIONSHIPS**
Primary & Secondary teachers, Coordinators, School nurse, Parents
**REMUNERATION**

The School Counsellor will help to create positive attitudes, critical thinking skills, and healthy behaviours to help the balanced learner move forward with confidence and resilience throughout the PYP, MYP & DP stages.
He/she will work collaboratively with parents, teachers,
administrators and outside agencies to provide each student with the necessary tools for successful growth and development.
Open communication, empathy, resilience, patience, understanding and a caring attitude are essential.
The person will need to be adaptable and versátil when facing unforeseen circumstances and situations.
**The School Counsellor has overall responsibility for**:
- Helping students to build a positive image
- Helping students in making choices
- Helping students to develop conflict resolution skills
- Helping students to develop sense of responsibility
- Helping students to use good judgement
- Helping to foster tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity in the school community
- Liaising with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on a regular basis
- Helping in problems of student-family conflicts
- Monitoring students’ social and emotional development
- Advising and supporting staff with appropriate & effective methodology to support teaching and learning in the classroom
- Providing a wide range of services, based on individual needs,
interests and grade levels
- Maintaining effective parent communication
- Assessing students referred by the teachers or coordinators
- Providing assistance to parents in procuring appropriate external professional services
- Helping students adjust to change, express feelings, solve problems
- Guiding students to make responsible decisions and smart choices
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
**Qualifications/Training**
- Bachelor’s degree in counselling, psychology or educational psychology (Essential)
- Evidence of personal commitment to continuing professional development (Essential)
- Training in behavioural disorders and developmental issues (Desirable)
**Experience / Knowledge**
- Experience and understanding the needs and demands of the IB curriculum (Desirable)
- Relevant experience in school counselling services (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Special Educational Needs (Desirable)
**Skills**
- The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) to a variety of audiences (Essential)
- A demonstrable ability to successfully create, motivate and inspire students (Essential)
- Experience in working within an international environment and dealing with various cultural backgrounds (Essential)
