We are seeking a Tax Specialist. The successful applicant will report to the Tax Director based in Montreal, Canada. The successful candidate will also work with local & international tax colleagues to ensure timely compliance for the Canadian subsidiaries, implement relevant internal policies, support on any tax audits, and review the tax implications of internal initiatives.
Support the tax compliance process, including analysis with our Finance (both back Office and local) teams.
Assist the analysis of tax technical issues that impact relevant entities and effectively communicate to relevant stakeholders in writing, following appropriate review.
Provide local country support for taxes in the execution of business transactions.
Support tax initiatives regarding processes/systems enhancements:
Refine process manuals developed in conjunction with indirect tax advisors and back Office finance;
Prepare/update tax decision trees for accounts payable purposes;
Support ongoing reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts.
Coordination of enterprise tax risks and assisting with tax audits.
Maintain relationships with local tax authorities and advisors.
Deliver guidance on the correct treatment of taxes for financial statement purposes.
Support the Finance team to ensure timely payments of tax liabilities and submission of refund claims.
Proactively monitor tax legislation/policy, including any potential required changes to processes and the ERP systems.
Maintain appropriate supporting documents for tax returns.
Competencies / Experience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting.
Four to five years post-qualification experience in tax matters.
Understanding of tax challenges associated with a multinational company, manufacturing and/or pharmaceutical entities.
Ability to bring a broader perspective when undertaking a tax analysis.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a hands-on attitude.
Aptitude to work independently and exercise sound judgment with making business decisions.
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience with an ERP system (specifically SAP) considered an asset but is not required.
Team player with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.
Strong communication skills (writing and speaking, in English and in French).
Flexibility to manage obligations in other time zones.
Less than 10% of travel may be required.
