ERM is looking for a Major Bid Director (Partner) to lead our business development effort in the field of Capital Projects and Strategic Programmes across EMEA . We are flexible on work location and this candidate can be based in countries where ERM has an office in EMEA. Currently we are working from home and this role will require you to do some domestic and international travel after we come out of COVID. We offer flexible working environment.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated Track record of successfully pursuing and winning major bids – ideally including those related Capital Projects and Strategic programmes; and leading large tender teams – including those with partner organisations.

You will have high Commercial acumen, and good understanding of contractual management for large projects and programmes. We are also looking for a team player with proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary advisor environment and to manage and motivate multi-disciplinary and diverse teams. We believe that the right candidate understands sustainability, low carbon/ESG and business resilience issues relevant to ERM’s client base and enjoys working in a fast paced, commercial environment. Other experience we found would benefit this role include experience with Customer Relationship Management applications, client development and pursuit management approaches; and knowledge of working in multiple geographies in EMEA. Finally, we also find experience working with clients in the Mining, Energy (including traditional power & renewables), technology, transport/development, chemicals, industrials and/or manufacturing sectors to be highly beneficial.

Role responsibility

The Major Bid Director will be leading and directing ERM’s response to large complex bid/tender opportunities, with multidisciplinary and diverse teams across Europe Middle East & Africa. Focus on Capital Projects and Strategic Programmes with ERM’s key clients. And you will be responsible for the following activities (not limited to):

- Lead ERM’s pursuit management process and our Top Opportunities programme for the region - working with ERM’s regional Commercial Team, ERM Partners, business unit leads and senior project directors/mangers;

- Take an active role in horizon scanning and market opportunity assessment, working closely with ERM’s client teams, thought leaders (inside and outside ERM) and other sources of insights – with a particular focus on major opportunities relating to business resilience, low carbon / ESG and sustainability more broadly; 

- Deliver ERM’s goals for major projects in the EMEA region – including maintaining a high proportion of sole source opportunities for major bids, and where competitive bidding is required, maintaining an industry leading competitive win rate.

- Work as an opportunity sponsor on major opportunities led by other senior ERM Partners, and oversee others providing similar opportunity sponsor roles (within ERM’s Top Opportunity Programme)

- For major opportunities, take a leading role in the development of tender strategies, value propositions, client mapping, competitor mapping and commercial pricing/approaches – positioning ERM for success;

- Work closely with ERM’s marketing, Business development and client management teams to ensure ERM’s position as a trusted advisor is maintained with the World’s leading companies;

- Contribute to the achievement of ERM priority objectives in Health and Safety

- Lead the relationship with client representatives in accordance with the tender instructions and tender strategies;.

- Quickly build and maintain an up to date understanding of ERM’s business capabilities the regional resources, and the differentiators that ERM can bring to major project opportunities;

- Work with Partner organisations, where needed, to help achieve a winning position on bids – also maintaining positive and trusted relationships with Partner organisations;

- Lead on the training and development of senior commercial leaders in ERM in areas related to Major Opportunity Pursuits, client development and Bid development;

- Take an active role in managing ERM’s commercial risks through active participation in activities related to project liability management and risk assessment;

- Promote ERM’s company values in all dealings with other employees, clients, subcontractors and other external contacts
