Proposed PhD research project will be focused on the research and development of inorganic ultra-rich composite electrolytes for solid state batteries (SSB). Special attention will be paid to understanding and optimization of Li+ conduction mechanisms within composite matrix of the electrolytes. Interfacial properties of the electrolytes will be studied and tuned towards better compatibility with Li negative electrode and LiNixMnyCozO2 (x+y+z=1, NMC) based positive electrode. Final validation of the developed solid electrolytes will be performed in high voltage solid state cells with thick positive electrodes.



PhD student will mainly carry out research work at CIDETEC (Spain) under supervision of Dr. Andriy KVASHA. This activity will be related to the synthesis and preparation of composite solid electrolytes, investigation and optimization of main physicochemical and electrochemical properties of the electrolytes, followed by assessment of the electrochemical performance in SSB. During at least 6 months, he/she will be on the secondment at IEK-1 of Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany) with the purpose of ad-hoc synthesis of solid inorganic electrolytes and advanced physicochemical characterization of bulk and interfacial properties of composite electrolytes under supervision of Prof. Dina FATTAKHOVA-ROHLFING. As part of educational program, PhD student will participate in an international battery/electrochemistry summer school during 1st year and on 2nd-3rd years present the obtained results at international conferences.



This topic is part of the European project DESTINY, Doctorate programme on Emerging battery Storage Technologies INspiring Young scientists, which aims at creating a new paradigm change in battery research. Coordinated by the CNRS, with 40 European partner institutions working on future batteries and related issues on energy storage, DESTINY has the ambition to participate in the long-term research initiative Battery 2030+. DESTINY consists in delivering a competitive edge to European industry and academy within the rapidly emerging green technology areas of Electro-mobility and Large-scale energy storage.



In this context, DESTINY PhD Programme opens a first application call enrolling 29 doctoral positions, located in 11 European countries, and will start on October 2021 (Destiny website > Cohort#1 > overview).

DESTINY is a European Doctorate Programme that will create a paradigm change in battery research, in line with the new European context around energy storage, especially Battery 2030+. This 5-year EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie COFUND project will train 50 PhD researchers, starting officially on October 2020. Two cohorts of students will be hired, for PhD studies starting in Oct. 2021 and Sept. 2022.



The project will deliver a competitive edge to European industry and academy within the rapidly emerging green technology areas of Electro-mobility and Large-scale energy storage in a wide sense.



DESTINY is coordinated by CNRS in France and gathers 20 Universities, 6 Research Centers, 2 Research Networks, 2 Regions, 3 Large Scale Facilities and 7 Companies from 11 European countries, most of them stakeholders of the European Network ALISTORE-ERI.



Altogether more than 1000 people working in battery R&D; will in some way be connected to the Educational and Training efforts within DESTINY.
